I have always considered competition to be a healthy activity, but every time I see another link for a branded RSS Reader, it makes me wonder if we don't have too many web feed readers out there. Would consumers have put up with, say, a hundred different types of VCRs? (Note that I'm talking application, not format.) Personally, I feel that there are incredible web feed applications ahead: print, radio, TV, film, if handled properly. But maybe someone needs to come up with a minimal specification for how a web feed reader should behave, whether hardware- or software-based. Anyone? When the Internet was young, a web browser specification was drafted declaring minimal behaviour to qualify as a web browser. Maybe RSS/ web feeds needs something similar. Have I missed something? Is there such a specification? (c) Copyright: 2005-present, Raj Kumar Dash, http://www.chameleonintegration.com Comments
