I agree that this will not happen anytime soon. However, I'm not so sure that this won't ever happen. I've already started sketching out a browser-based application that uses virtual email addresses - which I call feedmail - at two levels:
Personally, I think that there should be, and are going to be, numerous companies trying stuff like: combining email and webfeed aggregation and consumption.
