An RSS Feed is essentially a channel by which an Internet publisher can post headlines for their fresh RSS content items. As the feed is updated with new items (or edits of existing items), subscribers will see this reflected in their Feed Reader software. A feed is really just a website URL, but instead of using the HTML (HyperText Markup Language) code that drives most of the Internet, it uses a related Internet language called XML (eXtensible Markup Language). We won't get too deep into the technicalities of XML in this blog, except for simple examples. What's important to note is that you, as an Internet publisher of any type of content (including news, press releases, product listings, tech support tasks, etc.), can publish either a single RSS Feed or multiple Feeds. Why would you publish multiple feeds when you can publish just one? Or why would you publish just one when you can publish many? Well, those are the kinds of questions I'm hoping to answer here in this blog. Some publishers will want to distinguish their RSS Feeds to better serve their customers. Others will prefer a single Feed for ease of their subscribers. RSS is new; there are no cut-and-dried rules. We're all learning what works and what doesn't, what methods will last and what won't, and techniques for measuring the effectiveness of RSS Feeds for your business. All of this will be covered here in upcoming posts. (c) Copyright: 2005-present, Raj Kumar Dash, http://www.chameleonintegration.com Comments
