You are here: Home » RSS Cases - From Technology to Praxis » RSS Marketing » What is RSS - Reprise January 24, 2006 What is RSS - Reprise A common problem right now is that many publishers slap on RSS/ Atom "chicklets" (little graphic buttons) on their website or blog, but do not have a clear explanation of web feed use. Blogger Brian Clark has posted a short, sweet intro to RSS on his Copyblogger site (links below). Not only has Brian clearly explained the salient points and benefits, he's offering to let anyone republish his explanation at no cost. He's reserving copyright, so be kind and at least give him credit for it. (And copy the text to your own page instead of hotlinking.) Now just posting an explanation of RSS (or Atom) isn't enough to ensure the success of your web feed. Feed subscribers see your headlines first and foremost. So a good headline is crucial to the success of your web feed. Finding the right headlines is a learning process. Brian's Copyblogger blog has copywriting tips that may help you improve your headlines and text. Links: Brian Clark - CopyBlogger - What the Heck is RSS?, How to Write Headlines That Work. Hey Raj, thanks for the mention. From the spirited debates over at Performancing it's clear that a lot needs to happen to push adoption of RSS by both sides of the equation... so every little bit helps. Oh, and you may want to check your PM box over there. Post a comment
